Stainless steel gate valve: the "switch master" of industrial pipelines

Did you know? Those stainless steel gate valves that work silently in chemical plants and oil pipelines are like the "switch masters" of industrial systems. They can accurately control the flow of various liquids and gases by moving a metal gate up and down14.

‌1. Why is it so durable? ‌
‌Material is hard enough‌: Valves made of 304 or 316L stainless steel are naturally corrosion-resistant, and even concentrated sulfuric acid and salt water can't do anything to it‌23. Some high-end models will also coat the sealing surface with hard alloys, which are as hard as diamonds and are not afraid of wear and tear after ten years of use‌13.
‌The structural design is clever‌: The gate plate rises and falls vertically like a knife. When it is fully open, the channel is unobstructed. When it is fully closed, the double seal (metal elastic pad) blocks the pipeline tightly, and even water vapor cannot escape‌15.
‌2. Where is it most needed? ‌
‌Chemical plant‌: Dealing with concentrated sulfuric acid and strong alkali every day, ordinary valves have long been corroded into slag, but stainless steel gate valves are still as stable as old dogs‌25.
‌Oil pipeline‌: The oil and gas pressure of several thousand meters underground can crush ordinary valves, but it can withstand 35MPa high pressure without any pressure (equivalent to 350 atmospheres!)‌35.
‌Nuclear power plant‌: Soaked in a 290℃ high-temperature boric acid solution, ordinary metals have long been melted, but it can persist for 40 years without retiring‌35.
‌3. The future will be smarter! ‌
‌Mobile phone remote control switch‌: Workers do not need to climb pipelines, they can take out their mobile phones to remotely operate valves, and they can also receive real-time alarm text messages of "valve leaking!"‌35.
‌New environmental protection skills‌: In the past, surface treatment required toxic chromic acid, but now it has been replaced with pollution-free technology, and even wastewater can be used to directly raise fish‌35.
‌Cold knowledge‌: Although they are both gate valves, knife gate valves are more "brutal" - their gate plates are as sharp as kitchen knives, and can even cut through coal slag and paper pulp, and are specially designed to deal with dirty media‌47.

Next time you see the silvery shiny pipes in a chemical plant, you might as well imagine: there is a stainless steel gate valve silently acting as a "gatekeeper" inside, blocking all kinds of dangerous liquids and protecting our safety‌
