How to Distinguish Valves ?Sedelon


I. There are many types valve extensively used of different function, there are two general features as bellow:

One is the automatic valve: automatically operated depending on the the medium itself, such as check valve, safety valve, control valve, steam trap valve, relief valve...

Another is actuated valve: operated in manual wheel, electric actuator, hydraulic actuator or pneumatic actuator to achieve the control of flow, such as gate valve, globe valve, throttle valve, butterfly valve, ball valve, plug valve etc.

Beside, more aspects can be used to clarify all kinds of valves:


1. Globe type: the closure disc move around the seat center, as picture 1-1
2. Gate type:the closure disc move vertically along valve seat, as picture 1-2


3. Plug type and spheroidal type: the plunger or ball rotating with the center as closure disc, as picture 1-3

4. Swing type: the closure move around the shaft over the seat, as picture 1-4



II. Different function

1. To open and close: making the medium through or cut off the flow in the pipe, such as gate valve, globe valve ,ball valve, and butterfly valve etc

2. To prevent backflow: prevent the back flow, such as check valve

3. To control the medium: control the pressure and flux, such as control valve and pressure relief valve etc.

4. To allocate the medium: allocating the direction of flow, such as three-way plug valve, distribution valve, slide valve(guiding valve) etc,

5. Other special function: such as steam trap valve, air release valve, drain valve

III. Difference operator

1. Manual wheel: Making use of hand wheel, hand lever or chain wheel to operate the valves under the high torque situation

2. Electric actuator: such as gate valve can be driven by electric actuator(Z10-24W)

3. Hydraulic actuator: use water or oil to control the valve in stead of manpower

4. Pneumatic actuator: compress air as source of driving

IV. Different applicable temperature

1. Normal valve: the medium temperature is suitable at -29℃425℃( ex. carbon steel valve-WCA/ WCB/WCC)

2. High temperature valve:the medium temperature is suitable at 425℃540℃(ex.CF8/CF8M/CF3/CF3M)

3. Heat resistant valve: the medium temperature is suitable at ≥600℃(ex. Forged material-F304/F316/F304L/F316L)

4. Low-temperature valve:the medium temperature is suitable at 40℃ -150℃(ex. LCB/LCC/LC1/LF1)

5. Cryogenic valve: the medium temperature is suitable at <-150℃

V. Different port size

1. Small size valve: diameter DN<40mm

2. Middle size valve:diameter DN50~300mm

3. Big size valve:diameter DN350~1200mm


4. Super big size valve: DN≥1400mm
VI. Different end connection


1. Flanged connection

2. Thread connection(female&male )

3. Weld connection(SW/BW)

5. grooved coupling of pipeline
